The family later moved to Ione, Washington where she attended Ione High School and graduated in 1943.She continued her education at WSC (WSU) for one year and then returned to Pend Orielle County to work in Newport where she met and married her husband Glenn (Swede) Bergau. They moved to Dalkena, Washington, where they lived and raised a family.Pati died March 13, 2019 in Newport, Washington due to complications from the flu and pneumonia. Pati was preceded in death by her parents Minerva and Alonzo Shackelton, her husband of 66 years Glenn Bergau, and all of her brothers and sisters (Rae McCain, Bruce Shackelton, BettyLee Boyd, Phillip (Wade) Shackelton, William (Billy) Shackelton, Dennis Shackelton, and Lawrence (Larry) Shackelton).Pati is survived by her son Barry Bergau, her daughter Debbie Montgomery, her grandchildren Kyle and Shane Montgomery, and her great-grandchildren William (Will), Taylor, and Jameson Montgomery.A memorial service will be held at the Sherman-Campbell Funeral Home located at 423 West Second Street, Newport, Washington on Wednesday April 3, 2019 at 11:00.Sherman-Campbell Funeral and Cremation Services in Newport is in charge of arrangements. Michael was born May 1, 1926, in Youngstown, the son of Michael and Pauline Reduga Palusak, and was a lifelong area resident. He was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and went on to serve his country in the U.S. Navy in the V-5 Air Cadet program, serving in World War II. Mike later attended Oberlin College in Ohio and also the International Correspondence School, where he accomplished his schooling as a Structural Engineer. He worked at Republic Steel Corp. for 37 years in the engineering department and then became Chief Draftsman. After retirement from Republic Steel Corp., he worked for F.J. Gunger Engineering Co. as a Structural Engineer, retiring in 2013. He was a member of St. Mathias Catholic Church in Youngstown, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church, both in Campbell, and the American Iron and Steel Institute. Mike enjoyed landscaping and remodeling his home. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, the former Helen Banchansky, whom he married on July 23, 1949; his son and daughter-in-law, David and Patty Palusak; and his grandchildren, Cara and Caitie Palusak. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Dr. Jeffry Palusak. The Palusak family has entrusted the care of their loved one to the Wasko Funeral Home in Campbell. Per Michael’s request, there were no calling hours. Interment was held at St. John Catholic Cemetery in Lowellville.
